1. Information We Collect
We collect information to support the core functionality of the BillReminder website and mobile apps. This includes:
- Account Credentials: Email addresses, passwords (securely hashed), names, and timezones.
- Financial Metadata: Bill names, amounts, categories, due dates, income sources, expected paydays, and payment records. We do not store credit card details or bank account credentials.
- Log Data: Email notification dispatch statuses and delivery logs, and basic request logs (such as IP address and app or browser type) used to keep the service secure and working.
- Device Identifier (mobile apps): If you use the app without an account, we store a one-way encrypted (hashed) form of your device's app identifier so that reinstalling the app gives you back the same bills. It is not used for advertising and is removed when you create an account or delete your data.
- Sign-up Source: How you found us (for example the referring site or campaign tags in a link) and whether you signed up on the web, Android or iOS.
- Advertising and Device Data (mobile apps, free plan only): Our advertising partner, Google AdMob, collects device identifiers such as the advertising ID, IP address, device and app information, and how you interact with ads. See section 3.
- Purchase Data: If you subscribe to Premium, your subscription status and purchase history. See section 4.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Process and calculate your upcoming budget forecasts.
- Deliver automated email reminders based on your preferred reminder timing setup.
- Authenticate your account login sessions securely.
- Show ads in the free version of the mobile apps, which keeps the free plan free.
- Provide and verify your Premium subscription.
- Understand which channels bring people to BillReminder, in aggregate.
3. Advertising (Google AdMob)
The free version of our Android and iOS apps shows ads served by Google AdMob. Premium subscribers do not see ads, and the website does not show ads.
To serve and measure ads, Google collects information directly from your device, including the advertising ID (Android advertising ID or Apple IDFA), IP address, device and app information, and ad interactions. Google uses this information as described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. We never send your bills, amounts, income or payment records to Google or any other advertiser.
- Your consent (EEA, UK and Switzerland): Before any ads are requested, the app asks for your consent using Google's consent form. You can change your choice at any time in the app under Settings → Privacy choices.
- iOS: The app asks your permission before accessing your device's advertising identifier, through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you decline, you will still see ads, but they will not be personalised using that identifier. You can change this in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Android: You can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of personalised ads, in your device's Google settings.
4. Subscriptions and Payments
Premium subscriptions are purchased through the Apple App Store or Google Play, which process your payment under their own privacy policies. We never receive your card or bank details. We use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions. RevenueCat receives your BillReminder account ID, your purchase and subscription history, and basic device information so it can confirm whether your Premium subscription is active.
5. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. Your bills, amounts, income and payment records are never shared with advertisers. We share information only with the service providers described above (Google AdMob and RevenueCat) and with providers that help us run the service, such as hosting and email delivery, who process it on our behalf. We may also disclose information when required by law.
6. Data Security
We prioritize the security of your data. Passwords are hashed, and all communication with our servers uses HTTPS.
7. Permanent Account Deletion
We respect your right to be forgotten. In compliance with data protection laws, if you trigger account deletion via settings:
All personal records, including email hashes, profile names, bill registers, historical payment timelines, active reminder rules, and transaction statements, are cascade deleted from our PostgreSQL server. No backup cache is retained, and the deletion is immediate and permanent.
Advertising data collected by Google is controlled by Google; you can manage or reset it using the device settings described in section 3. Subscriptions must be cancelled separately in the App Store or Google Play.
